Every year billions of people around the world observe Good Friday, to remember an event that took place almost 2000 years, in a tiny place. Now what is so good about this Good Friday. Read. Respond. Realize
When Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they and eventually all of humanity became sinners and seperated from God. So God devised a plan to save humanity by paying the penalty of sin to redeem mankind. This plan was executed on a Friday some 2000 years back on Calvary, where Jesus became a sin offereing to God.
On the cross there was an exchange. Jesus exchanged His righteousness and took upon Himself our punishment. God is offering forgiveness of sins and eternal life to every person who believes in Christ, as a result of this great exchange on the cross. This is what makes that day, Good Friday
Jesus was wounded that we might be healed
Isa 53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions; He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was on Him; and with His stripes we ourselves are healed.
Jesus was made to be sin that we might be made righteous
2Co 5:21 For He has made Him who knew no sin, to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
Jesus tasted death that we might have life
Heb 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor, that He by the grace of God should taste death for all.
Jesus became poor that we might be rich
2Co 8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, for your sakes He became poor, in order that you might be made rich through His poverty.
Jesus was made a curse that we might be blessed
Gal 3:13-14 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, being made a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone having been hanged on a tree"); (14) so that the blessing of Abraham might be to the nations in Jesus Christ...
Jesus was rejected that we might be accepted
Isa 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men...Eph 1:5-6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, in which He has made us accepted in the One having been loved.
The Bible says that God loved us so much that He was willing to allow His Son as a sacrifice for our sins. If you have a hard time believing this, here is a modern day story brought to the celluloid in 'Most.'
'Most' is Czech for "The Bridge," and this story revolves around a man who operates a railway drawbridge somewhere in Eastern Europe. It is the story of a father and son. They love each other very much. Stargazing or enjoying tea together, the two are nearly inseparable. One day, Lada, the son, asks his father if he can join him at the bridge. The bridge is where the father works as an operator, raising a drawbridge when a boat must pass and lowering it when the train arrives. On the one day that Lada joins his father at work, a train arrives early. Lada tries to alert his father that the train is early, but his father cannot hear him. Father is away, inspecting some machinery. So, the boy rushes to throw the switch manually, enabling the drawbridge to drop and let the train safely pass. But, by the time the father discovers the problem, Lado has accidentally fallen into the drawbridge wheel and pulley mechanisms. The father must make a choice. Save his son and let the train wreck. Or, lower the bridge, save the train and sacrifice his son to the crushing wheels. He chose the hard way. He let his son die and allowed the train to pass through by lowering the bridge. It was a tremendous loss to the dad to lose his son, but it was of immense advantage to the people that their lives were saved.
Now, the God of the Bible did a similar thing, in that He allowed His Son Jesus to experience pain and death.
If you would like to experience the love of God, to get forgiveness of sins and get eternal life, simply ask Jesus with faith, to forgive your sins.
